Australia Day celebrations at Nundle are friendly, welcoming, community-based events where visitors rub shoulders with locals and enjoy the small town country atmosphere. Everyone should experience the poignancy of Australia Day in Country NSW at least once in their lifetime.
Nundle's Australia Day festivities are a great way to end the Tamworth Country Music Festival and many visitors call into Nundle on their way home.
Australia Day at Nundle starts at 8.30am at Nundle Public School with breakfast cooked by Nundle and District Lions Club followed by a ceremony featuring the Australia Day Ambassador, country musician Darren Coggan, and Australia Day Awards including Citizen of the Year, Community Organisation/Event, Junior Sport and Community Appreciation.
The old fashioned hand shearing demonstration is always a hit as part of the Nundle Australia Day Program, as well as the Trivia Competition, Bush Band and Children's Activities (Treasure Hunt, Play Doh Modelling, and Best Australia Themed Hat).
Later in the day the sense of occasion continues with two Celebrate Heritage and Culture shows for Australia Day at The DAG Sheep Station, from 11am Paul 'Richo' RIchardson, 12 noon-4pm, Mark Atkins Band, Lou Bradley, Rod Dowsett, Kalesti Butler, Doug McIntyre and bush poets Jack Drake and Bill Kearns. Tickets, $40, include fruit and cheese platters and roast buffet luncheon with tabled seating. Second show 6pm-9pm tickets $25 BBQ and open mic with special guests. At The Peel Inn take in the laid back country pub atmosphere and the grapevine covered courtyard recently voted among the best beer gardens in Australia.
